Hi Guys!

Hoping I'm posting this in the correct section.

I've got a new laptop recently which gave me a lot of headaches because I couldn't install any OS - until Windows 10, which I've later found out that it's pretty much the only one supported and compatible with it, although the retailer did not specify that in the details. Tried Win10 with latest updates, but what I received in return was the BSOD disease so now I'm trying to return it to the initial state. While I can manage to install FreeDos I can't seem to be able to install the exact version that was there before - "FreeDos Kernel version":

Would someone be so kind to help me with this ? I've tried searching but couldn't find anything similar :(

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you,

I don't know too much...

It's just "FreeDos"; the "Kernel Version" bit is just saying which particular release it is. I've no idea what the latest is, but is there any reason that you want that particular version? I shouldn't think the differences are particularly significant.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for replying.

@McHenryB
I tried to install Freedos from here: http://www.freedos.org/download/ , the 1.1 version

But I get a different results, like a 4 option boot and different "freedos versions" that appear different. When the laptop came, it would boot directly to that screen - so no boot options, and nothing else. Is there a way to replicate that with a newer build ?

@Corwin65
Well, apparently I cannot return the laptop without it's original operating system (even if we're not talking about windows with license key) so I'm trying to get it back to it's original state. Seems to be a bit harder than I thought :/

Note: Laptop came with the Freedos version in the picture I've linked.

I don't know too much about DOS but poking around on their website and sourceforge build 2035 (from your pic) was an older build released in 2005. The build on the install cd is 2041 released in 2012. So you just have a newer version.

Hello!

I have absolutely the same problem. I need the same kernel FreeDOS. The author didn't say what was the solution so I need help. FreeDOS 1.1 -> 4 boot options. I played with different install options but did not succeed.
