so im planning to build another pc(yes i currently have an intel/nvidia machine),this build however is for gaming mostly at 1080 resolution.Since im not really experienced in the AMD world,i thought i would get some help from people here and it would be nice if u guys can recommend me some hardware specs for a limited budget of 1000USD,you guys can include some aftermarket cooler if u want,Storage i can find on my own unless you guys know some cheap SSDs that perform very well.

reason for building another pc:I just wanna try out AMD stuff.

this is my current pc specs(if you are interested):
i5-6400 2.7Ghz up to 3.3Ghz (using stock cooler)
16GB DDR3(8x2) 1866Mhz HyperX Fury(black)
Asus STRIX GTX970 4GB(or should i say 3.5GB Kappa)
Asus B150 Pro Gaming D3
SanDisk SSD Plus 128GB
Western Digital 1TB blue
Corsair CX600M

if i can get just a little bit close of performance for the AMD machine compared to my present pc i'll be happy.

sorry for long post and bed engrish, here is a potato.

an fx-8350 on an msi 970 gaming motherboard with the biggest cooling you can fit into the case such as a noctua d14/15 to be able to oc the cpu as high as possible.

add in an r9-390 (saphire makes a quality one that runs cool and quiet) and then fill it in with ram and storage and you should be good to go. other thing to keep in mind is the power supply. these parts are pretty power hungry and only a top quality psu would be worth buying for such a power hungry oc'ed build.

all this needs is a case and storage leaving a good $150 for that

You'll be hard pressed to find an AMD processor that will rival a i5-6400, but an 8350 or 8370 would probably be your best bet before diminished returns start kicking in. For graphics, you'll want an Radeon 290 or 390 to rival the 970 you have in your Intel build. Other than that, the rest should be close to identical. One word of caution, the 8350 or 8370s are 8 core processors so they will outperform the intel in multithreaded applications, but they will lag behind is single threaded applications, and due to the increased core count, they will also run hotter with a higher TDP.

something like this anyway would be what you're thinking for the most part. same solid 1080p gaming but a bit better at 1440p over the 970 if you ever decide to go there.

If you want to try out amd and have no other reason, I would actually suggest cheaping out and going to eBay for parts if your wanting low price and aren't scared of the potentially shorter life of the overall machine. I did it 2 years ago and still running the same setup without any hardware issues

The i5-6400 for gaming will outperform the best overclocked amd processor you can buy today.
For apps, that are multithreaded, the FX-8xxx are good.

AMD makes decent graphics cards if you want to experiment with that.
Otherwise your budget is better spent on a i7-6700K with a decent air cooler like noctua or Phanteks.
Save the rest for something else.

he already knows the performance is not as good and just wants to play around with amd stuff. can't you folks just answer the question for him :D

trying to talk him out of it is not what he wants, it's his money, let him spend it as he wants!!

You have a good point, but getting close to intel performance does not seem possible for a gamer.

i agree fully. from benchmarks i have seen, perhaps 85% or so on equivalent intel platform is all that can be expected. but with the asynch and dx 12 this gap should close to about even from what i have seen so far. this is one area where the old fx chips get a bit of a boost as do the gpu's from what we have seen. the dx12 will scale to the full 8 threads and remove the single core performance issues due to having more resources than the 4 core i5 has. for a dx 12 gaming machine it may actually beat out the intel/nvidia combo. we'll learn more as we go and more games become available anyway....

thank you for the reply, your current listing looks fine to me though i must ask,is the incoming Zen will be worth the wait?.Im only concerned about that part,im not actually planning to build a new machine now(probably near the end of this year) but should i just wait for the newer Zen?

we have no true information on zen right now but from what folks have put together from various places, it seems zen should be about similar performance to the haswell processors intel just replaced. at least in ipc performance. again just an educated guess but this seems to be the general level of performance to expect from zen.

the current fx series is obviously well below this level so if you are waiting until the end of the year anyway, it may be worth waiting for zen. we have no release date for it either but first half of next years seems likely and amd has said that fx chips would be the first releases followed by apu's.

wish we knew more but this is about all that is out there right now. none of it is verified (except for fx chips being first) but that's how the rumor mill works.
