Well some of you may know i had problems with my old asrock z170 k4/d3 fatal1ty it wouldnt boot in dual channel memory after messing with it for weeks i decided to buy a new board thinking 2 dimm slots were dead..

New board is an asrock z170 fatal1ty k6 the board came yesterday i installed it all and im having the same problem again it wont post/boot in dual channel but it will in single channel memory

The ddr4 ram i bought is corsair lpx 2x8gb 2400mhz the model number on my memory is: CMK16GX4M2A2400C16R

I am now at the point of giving up and selling the lot i am popping it into the local pc shop tomorrow he is going to look over it and try some different memory and run some tests..

If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated as i am blowing my hard earned cash like no tomorrow and im at the point of giving up..

Thanks.

there's some bug on z170.
for dual channel run, it must be run for single ram first power on and off , then plug in second ram in the same color slot.
power on again, it happen to me with asus z170.
cannot boot directtly with dual channel. must boot with single channel for the first.

Hi tradesman i am using corsair h100i i have tried loosening and moving the h100i and still no difference.

I have updated bio's,enabled x.m.p,cleared cmos,down clocked ram.

I have had enough for one night im taking it into a local pc shop tomorrow he is going to give it a go and try some different ram

I had a look on the asrock site and found this http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z170%20Gaming%20K6/index.asp?cat=Memory

It looks like my ram isnt on the support list so it could be that my motherboard doesnt support my model in dual channel and only in single my model number on my ram is :CMK16GX4M2A2400C16R

I will let you know how i get on tomorrow when i get it back thanks all good night..

Just got the pc back from the shop he has checked everything over and he said it has to be a faulty board he has checked pins on the board he has checked the cpu tried loads of different memory and still the same problem i have just messaged scan computers to get the board sent back for a replacement board that is 2 motherboards now with same problem the z170 k4/d3 and the z170 k6

All i can do now is wait for a replacement and see if it works with yet another motherboard

Ash..

Will do tradesman. Im going to try one more asrock board then i think im going to have to swap brands

He checked my cpu today and said it looks brand new and no obvious damage but i read some were that the skylake has a memory controller or some thing and that could be damaged very rare but can happen i believe.

i dont have another cpu to try and dont fancy buying another cpu my mates running a 4690k what i built and thats fine typical :D so i cant use his cpu ..

i will let you know how i get on ..Ash

I dont have a graphics card at the minute thats why i was going to buy an r9 380x or gtx 970 for gaming on for now and then upgrade at christmas time to an gtx 980 or r9 390 if the prices drop

To be honest the 380x or gtx 970 is more than enough i will be playing games like h1z1,rust,day z and a few others im not a heavy gamer i only play for a couple of hours on a night mainly weekends
