We have our internet from Windstream, and using the modem/router that they gave us (just one box). The router is a Sagecom. So, how can I set up prioritized devices on our wifi? Thanks!!

Solution

Well, not really.
You can't slice it and dice it like that.

Although a minimal change, what QoS settings does your router have?

What problems are you seeing?
- Very slow connection for simple tasks while doing large tasks on other things. Ex. Watching hulu or uploading video, cant do anything really on iphone or laptop.
What bandwidth do you pay for?
- Like speed? (Sorry, not very smart with networking stuff.) We have 25 mb/s internet speed.
What bandwidth do your devices see?
- Get about 26 through ethernet (Ookla speedtest), and 19-25 on phone, etc. (wifi, using Ookla speedtest).
How many devices?
- Desktop PC (Ethernet), Laptop (Wifi), Brother's Laptop (Wifi), Roku (Wifi), iPad (Wifi), 3 iPhones (Wifi), Xbox (Wifi), Wireless Range Extender (Wifi) These are never all connected/being used at once. Xbox and Roku are usually off, and phones/laptops often out of the house.
How many users?
- How many users? 4 in the family. Dad only uses Desktop. We never have more than 3-5 things using wifi at once.

I would like to prioritize my phone, and maybe laptop. If i prioritized them, then they would be faster while watching hulu or uploading a video, correct? Otherwise my wifi is useless while doing either one of those. I'd rather have my phone be faster, than the speed of uploading a youtube video or loading hulu.

How do I get into my router settings? Do I enter my IP address onto firefox's address bar (or something like that?) As I said, I'm not very good with any networking stuff, but I am going to try and learn more about it. Thanks!
