I'm planning on an R9 390, but I was wondering if my corsair rm550x plus gold can handle it. My processor is an i3 6100 (maybe not the ideal match, I know, but the main thing is that it draws very little power) .. my setup on pcpartpicker calculates the total power use to 402 W :) shouldn't that be fine? why is the recommended psu for R9 390 750 W? That seem a little steep!

650W is better but the very high quality RMX 550w can handle it , no problem.

The RMX can handle it your all set.

A Radeon R9-390 needs at least 30 amps on the 12v+ rail and at least 550 watt - 600 watt power supply with 1 - 6 pin and 1 - 6+2 pin PCIE power connections.

The RMX easily meets the requirements.

A single 390 with an i3 550W RMX is plenty.

Of course.
Phanteks p400 case,
samsung ssd 250 gb,
two 120 mm phanteks case fans,
small led in bottom/front of case, asus h110m-a motherboard,
2x4 gb hyperx 2133 ram,
i3 6100 is with Stock cooler :)

Possibility for future upgrades and overclocking. It only becomes confusing when you over analyze it.

does the brand have to be corsair ? or can any good 550w gold psu work like evga and other brands ? curious because iam in the same boat as him almost same setup but a 4790k instead of the 6100 just curious and dont want to make a brand new topic for a answer that is probably the same as his
