I have looked at so many posts, forums, etc trying to find good headphones. It is so much that I just don't know what to do. Currently, I have Corsair vengeance 2100 and they have served me well, but I fear they are going to start ending their life as i have had them for 3 years. I am also just trying to decide a better pair or if I should just buy another pair (I believe the h1500 or h2100 are the current models). I read on open back and closed back headphones and I'm not really sure what to get, but I don't plan on getting razor, turtle beach, or titton. Also to have a mic would be ideal too. Please help I'm just lost on what to get. Thank you!

Solution
Don't bother with "gaming" sets. For that price, pick up a HD558 (or ATH-AD700x if you prefer softer bass) + something like a modmic

HD518 actually isn't an "older model", rather part of the 5X8 trio (518,558,598) that are more or less the same headphone with different levels of build quality. All three are good, and usually you can even find the 598 for under $150 (black friday had them for <$100 ! ) and the 558 for under $100. ATH-AD500X is the same way, with 500,700, and 900 being more or less the same thing at different price points. 558 and 700 tend to be a better bargain than the higher up models, with almost as good a build quality and nearly identical frequency response.

Ok, so open back are definitely better? I wasn't sure because I don't know how loud the sound gets outside the headphones, as well as if it would affect the mic too.

If your volume is high enough the mic pics that up, you're going to have severe hearing loss anyway. Don't worry about open vs closed for your mic unless you're a studio recorder (in which case you'll need more than $200 for the whole set up including baffling, stands, etc)
