Windows Update Doesn't Work

Whenever I hit check for updates it says: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer" So first I tried to simply upgrade to windows 10 by using "get windows 10" icon on the desktop, but when i hit download it starts then closes randomly 10 seconds later, I've tried to delete documents, checked if the services were running (which they are), and using cmd, i tried everything online yet it does not work, please can anyone help me out?

I`m presuming it is a legit version of the os you have and a licence key.

It may be windows firewall, or windows security center of windows causing the problem.
If you have any other software that is installed on your system for antivirus and firewall protection.

Make sure the firewall part is not running at the same time as windows firewall or the one provided in windows security center.

If using windows 7,8, or 8.1.
