So after recently completing my first PC build, I decided I needed more storage space for all the crap I have... Instead of buying more storage, I was thinking of using an old HDD from a 2011 MacBook Pro (which I don't use anymore since I replaced it with an SSD in January). Please verify if my current plan below will work:

Plug old HDD back into SATA cable of MacBook Pro
Format it as NTSF for Windows (which erases the drive)
Plug HDD into SATA & PSU cables in my PC
Expect it to act as tertiary storage

Solution
laptop SATA drives work fine with PCs. have moved quite a few of the small 5200rpm to cheaper systems that just needed an extra bit of storage.

what formatting does Mac use? i've had drives with OSX installed on them that could be read in Windows before.

Sorry I should've clarified... The old HDD currently has OS X installed on it. I don't need the software or any files within, but I do need to format it from the Mac itself. My PC didn't recognize the drive at all when I plugged it in with Mac stuff still on it.
