Hello,

Looking to build a gaming PC on a budget primarily to play Total War games (Primarily Rome 2 and Attila) and wanted to get decent FPS on the higher graphics settings.

My budget is around £700-800 for an overall build. That being box, monitor, keyboard, mouse.

I saw the below and liked the specification as I have heard the new i3 processors can be quite good in a budget build.

https://www.palicomp.co.uk/i3-aurora-aur1

I changed the spec slightly to the below coming out at £705

i3 Aurora (AUR1)
FRACTAL DESIGN R5 - RED DECL
Intel Core i3 6100 - 2 Cores - 4 Threads @ 3.7Ghz + 3MB CACHE
CPU Overclocked To Approx 4.4Ghz To 4.6Ghz
HEATSINK/FAN For CPU Included To Cover Overclock If Applicable
ASUS Z170-P - USB2.0, USB3.0, SATA6 + M.2
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR4 2666Mhz
1TB SEAGATE SSHD - SATA3, 7200 RPM 6Gb/s + 64MB Cache
SAMSUNG 24X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer & Dual Format
AMD R9 380 4GB PCI-E 3.0
600W PSU - FSP 80+ SILVER - 88% Efficiency (Mid/High Gaming)
WINDOWS 10 - 64Bit Inc DVD/Licence
Total Price £705.19

I tried building the same spec on uk part picker and it came out a little higher so it seems like a good deal.

Any advice or guidance on a better or cheaper build would be greatle appreaciated.

Thanks

Rich

You could do an overclockable i5 build for the same money. PSU is also probably better quality.

I believe the Rome Total War series are CPU intensive, so this may be the better option.

Thanks for the advice bad actor. Will have a look at that build. Was looking to use a z170 board purely for upgrades in future.

Total war can be very CPU intensive so wanted to avoid bottlenecks on initial build and then give wiggle room for upgrades at later date.

Thanks again for the advice
