i'm building a computer for a friend, he said he wants a budget/mid level gaming PC for under $1100 AUD that can play games at med-ultra settings at 60 FPS at 1080p

All prices are from newegg and amazon and are converted and displayed in AUD (to ease confusion)

CPU - i3 6100 - $158 (newegg)
Cooler - Stock (included)
GPU - MSI GTX 970 OC - $425.05
RAM - G-Skill Ripjaws 2x4gb DDR4 2133 mhz - $53 (newegg)
MOBO - MSI H110 Gaming - $104
PSU - EVGA 650w GS (80+ GOLD) - $105.25 (amazon)
HDD - He said he has a hard drive from his old pc
SDD - Crucial BX200 240gb - $85 (newegg)
OS - Windows 8.1 (he already brought the disc)
CASE - Corsair Carbide Spec-02 - $113 (ebay aus) (yeah the odd one out and has no shipping slapped onto it :))

Shipping/GST/VAT - $83.91

Total - $1127.21 AUD

Please let me know of what you guys think of this build and if i should change anything ect.

I can go with the 2133 modules of the G-Skill ripjaws and a Crucial BX200 240gb SSD (it will slap on an extra $10 but i doubt my friend will mind)

Thanks for your input :)

I would have chose something cheaper, but the i3 has the best sweet-spot for price/performance and the Pentium only has 2 weaker cores that are single threaded while the i3 has 2 cores that have 2 threads each (2 cores 4 threads), and besides the i3 has a higher clock speed and a newer release date/lithography and more importantly STRONGER CORES, but its something i would of considered other than the newer i3 and another point is the DDR4 memory (even tho theres not much difference between DDR3 and DDR4 i would still love the small performance bounce)

AND the most important thing - i need a Z97 or Z87 motherboard and a good CPU cooler which costs alot more than regular motherboards and stock coolers and the power consumption will go up a fair deal too :(

None the less thanks for your input :)

Your build is good.

Do not worry about the ram. All ddr4 ram has a default 2133 speed so you can boot into the bios and change things if you want.

GTX970 needs only a 500w psu.

I have no problem overprovisioning a PSU a bit. Say 20%.
It will run cooler, quieter, and more efficiently in the middle third of it's range.
A PSU will only use the wattage demanded of it, regardless of it's max capability.

EVGA is an ok make, but usually you can find Seasonic which is better quality for the same price.
I do not put much value in modular of gold rating.

The energy savings of gold rating are miniscule, and you are going to use most of the power leads anyway.

Love a ssd for windows.
But, I would pay a bit more for the quality and performance of a Samsung evo.

Possibly, you should use a Z170 based motherboard to allow for a future cpu upgrade to a i5-6600K or even kaby lake processor.

Ironically the GS series are manufactured by seasonic and are rebranded as EVGA and as for the SSD ive opted for a Crucial BX200 240gb SSD as SR71 mentioned :). and as for the RAM speeds thanks alot for the info that helps me save a couple of my friends dollars :)

Thanks a lot for the input :)

PS- i like smilies :)
