Set only one drive to ahci mode

I have 2 drives in my system. a SSD and a HDD, I want to set the HDD to AHCI but if i do it coverts the SSD. Should I just unplug the SSD and replug it?

You want the SSD in AHCI for the best performance. Why do you think differently?

If you set it to AHCI and it doesn't boot, assuming windows 10, just load into safemode with networking and windows should repair itself so it can boot the next time.
