I am in the process of resurrecting an old PC I have laying around, Core 2 duo E8400, Nvidia 9600GT, GA-P45T-ES3G motherboard.
I used to have 8gb of memory (2x4) in the form of a Gskill kit, but since then I moved that ram to a new computer, and need 4gb of ram to get my old machine running. I bought some Kingston ram (1 stick, 4GB DDR3 - 1333HZ CL9 240 pin hyperx fury) but the computer can't boot with it, won't even post, just gives me the classic phoenix 1-1-1-1-1 beep pattern for a while then turns off. I know this is an incompatibility issue because I had this problem a couple years ago when I was switching ram between computers, some sticks work, some don't. As far as I know in this case it has to do with the intel P45 chipset not being compatible with high density ram.
I want to take it back to the electronics store tomorrow and swap it out with compatible ram but I have no idea how to tell which ram would or would not be compatible, what should I do?
