Settings: high
Res: 1080p
CPU: amd fx8300
Gpu: sapphire r9 270x
Hdd: wd blue 1tb
OS: Windows 10
Controller: xbox 360 wireless with receiver

My problem is that I cannot get my 360 controller to work in the game
Been playing for around 12 hours/ everything works great.

Decided to play with a controller better. So i ordered the receiver. But i cant get it to work
The controller connects to the receiver and the receiver works fine with the computer. But the controller is completely unresponsive in game.

I have tried disabling the HID- Game controller in device manager
(There was two of them, don't know why, since there is nothing else connected to the pc and I have tried every possible combination of enabling and disabling between these two)

Have also tried disconnecting the mouse before opening the game, did not work either.

Please help, game is impossible using mouse/kb

Solution
Update: finally got it to work.
After looking at the x360ce.ini file, and also during the setup of the controller, I saw that there was this "monect hid device" listed. Looked it up, and results to be one of those iphone/android to pc controller emulator programs. And I remember uninstalling that program, bastards left the device driver, along with the system service on the compuer. So I disabled the service from task mgr.

Then tried to disable/uninstall the device with device manager.
Alas, the device was not removable or disable-able, the disable box was greyed out. Again, bastards.

So I looked through some 10 other hid devices, looking at the events tab to see which other one had been configured/installed on the same day as the...

Yes to all, in fact I tried it with other games, and it works just fine.
Tried it with project cars

When you say game controller settings, you mean in-game?

No, i mean in windows when you click on the Xbox Wireless Adapter in Devices and Printers.

If you go into the Keybindings in DS3 is can you try rebinding the keys for the controller?

You have probably already tried this but are you making sure the controller is connected before you launch the game? There are some games that won't recognize a controller if you connect it after the game is launched. These are usually older titles so it probably isn't the problem but it's worth checking.

So, when I go to devices and printers, there is a wireless reciever, and once i connect by xbox controlelr to the reciever, there also appears an xbox 360 wireless controller on the device list, along with the reciever

And yes, I always have the controller connected before I start the game.

What I also did was uninstall any controller emulator programs that I have. Read somewhere that these programmas might make themeselves the main controller "game controller 0", and that once you connect the xbox controller it will default to game controller 1 or 2, etc.
Dark souls will only look at game controller 0.
Anyway, I uninstalled the programs, restarted the computer and still nothing.

And no, I cannot change the bindings under controller in the game. Once I choose them to change them, and I press anything on the controller nothing happens.

There are other hid devices under device manager.
Only 2 of them are the "hid compliant game controller"

Others are called differently, I dont know if I should completely disable all the deviced under human interface devices.

Is reinstalling windows an option for you?

It's dangerous to disable all the HID devices because one/two of them are your mouse and keyboard.

You might also try using controller emulation software.... to emulate your xbox360 controller as an xbox 360 controller... >_> I know sounds dumb, but there seems to be a communication issue, because it works for other people but not you.

I might try the emulation.
I dont currently have an external hd with me so reinstalling windows is not an option, besides, it seems like such a hastle. I would just prefer to continue using kn/mouse even though ill die thrice as many times through the game.

There must be a way to change those settings where you choose what inout device is controller 0 or controller 1, etc.

Also, I tried it with nba 2k16, and it didnt work either. When i go to controller configurations, there appears and option for microsoft xbox360 controller but i change it so that one is chosen and nothing happens, and if i disconnect the xbox controller, that option dissapears. So at least i know nba2k16 detects it, just doesnt do anything with it, or doesnt communicate with it. Dark souls doesnt even recognize it aparently, since im not able to change the key bindings.

Consequently, both 2k16 and ds are steam based, while project cars, on which it did work, is not steam based (or so i think).

Tried emulating the 360 controller as a 360 controller.

Still did not work. I used x360ce to emulate. I did hear the "input found" sound as the gane was starting, but it still did nothing. Still couldnt use controller to move through menu, still couldnt bind keys, and still didnt work in-game. Nothing.

What.the.hell.

And that did it, curious now to try it without the emulator, but I think ill just keep it safe for now. The device listed under "monect hid device" is still listed and Im trying to find a way to brute-force remove the bastard from the device list. Tried to look up the driver under my pc(oemf33.inf) with no results.

Anyway, thanks for the help! Hopefully anyone else with this problem will benefit from this posting.
