Can/How to run a server as a gaming/NAS

Is this possble, and how would one do this?
And how big/heavy would i have to get into this?

I meant is it possible to do this semi cheaply (under 10,000)
my hand me down servers have died when i have tried to do this

You don't provide enough information in your question to answer. For instance, what gaming server do you want to host? What OS is required for that game server? How many users? What do you want the NAS to be able to do? Realtime transcoding? All those questions alter the parameters of the device.

You can create a NAS with a raspberry PI. You can run a minecraft server on a raspberry PI. You can do the same two thing on a quad socket IBM X server and most things in between.

Well what I guess I ment to say was could you run multiple gaming servers and around 15 computers to be backed up nightly, and yet have enough room for future expansion ether way
