Hello, I want to build a good PC for my projects, and I need a good CPU and a lot of RAM, I have made a list on PC part picker and I am worrying about compatibilities... Can someone tell me if it will run well?

Thanks in advance.

Zsound,

Yes, the E5-2670 has better performance in every way than the FX-8350

Passmark average results:

FX-8350: 8945 and single threaded rating is 1503.
Xeon E5-2670: 12502 and the single threaded performance is 1620 The top z420 / E5 2670 CPU score is 13487

Zsound,

In my opinion, this kind of system is better as a workstation: designed for high calculation programs and, importantly, to be very quiet. You will see in workstations that the cooling fans are mounted internally in a shroud whereas a general purpose case has fans mounted on the front surface.

There are an increasing number of programs- Sonar Producer for example that use multiple cores for effects processing. As an alternative, consider:

HP z420 workstation pc xeon 3,3ghz 8 Core e5-2670 ram 32gb + ssd 128gb quadro 295 > 695,00 EUR Achat immédiat

The Xeon E5-2670 is 8-cores /16 threads @ 2.6 /3.3Ghz. On Passmark, the average CPU rating is 12502 and the single threaded performance is 1620. Compare this to the AMD FX 8350 which is 8 cores /8 threads, rating is 8945 and single threaded rating is 1503.

On Passmark, the top z420 / E5 2670:

Rating: 4038
CPU:13487
2D:654 (Quadro 4000)
3D:1995
Mem: 2419 (64GB)
Disk: 4388 (Samsung 850)

The good feature of the z420 is not only the CPU power, but there is 32GB of RAM with a potential of 64GB. The Xeon E5 also provides 40 PCIe lanes. The Quadro NVS 295 is poor in 3D, but if you are using only music recording editing, and production software, the 2D score of up to 828 is enough. If you have any 3D applications, consider a used Quadro K2200 (4GB)

The cost of this system of EUR 695 means there a,most 700 EUR that you can buy a fast SSD- Samsung 850 Evo 250GB for OS and programs, an 850 Evo 500GB for the projects, and it would be an advantage to have a pair of 24" monitors. The cost savings can also contribute to an audio interface or the monitoring system, which is also very important. Buying a system means that you could actually, be working right away and don't have to order, assemble, wire, and test a new system.

I bought two used HP z420's and both have been completely reliable and with very good performance. these are also the quietest computers I have ever had- very important when working with audio.

Just an alternative to building.

Salut,

BambiBoom

Hello, thank you for the opinion, that HP looks interesting.
And about that processor Xeon E5-2670, it has a better performance than this one?
Also the price of that HP is really good, I might change my ideas, I don't know yet.

A very important performance difference is that the FX-8350 has a total of 8 threads but the E5-2670 has 16 threads. In modern audio processing, the number of threads is more important than the clock speed.

Even for 3D CAD and graphic design, the E5-2670 would be be better as the single-threaded rating is better.

I think a workstation such as the HP example is good choice as it has much better performance for 850 EUR less, allows the savings in cost to buy the best drives and monitors, has more potential to upgrade, and doesn't have to be assembled.
