hello guyz sorry i am a new pc gamer.i wanted to ask that i currently have a dell inspiron 3020 i5 mini tower pc. i wanted to turn it into a gaming pc.Firstly i know i will have to change my current power supply to almost 600 watts to run high end gpu. But thats not the problem.I wan to use a msi gtx 970 in it.My pc has a pcie x16 slot so i know the motherboard will support the card but i dont know that will the card physically fit into the case or if even it fits into it will there be any cooling issues?should i replace the mini case with a mid tower case?? plz help thanks

If yours is the one on the right, http://www.techpowerup.com/img/13-11-15/Dell_OptiPlex_3020_01.jpg
... it should fit fine. If you are considering an exceptionally long card, measure the distance from the expansion slot cover to the drive cage. Then check that against the card's specs for length. But I can't think of any off hand that would be too long.

A 500W or bigger high quality PSU is recommended for the GTX 970.

A bigger case with better air flow (top vents for one) will always be better. But switching out the case isn't easy with a Dell. Most Dells use proprietary connections between case and motherboard. Their front panel connections may not fit retail boards. On your model, I can't be sure.

R9-390 should have a 650W PSU minimum. As to which is better, it will depend on the game, the resolution you game at, and how well you can keep the system cool. In your case, the GTX 970 would be easier to keep cool. Here are some comparisons. Be aware of the resolutions that the comparisons are made at.

Another item to consider is the fact that Nvidia has had some issues implementing DX12 (Win10) properly, whereas AMD seems to have gotten it right. That may change, I would suspect, if it can be fixed in the firmware.

I gave you game comparisons at various resolutions and for various games. I told you that you need a bigger PSU for the R9-390. I told you that your small case will suffer for cooling with the R9-390 in it. I also told you that it wouldn't be practical to change cases because of the proprietary motherboard. What more info do you need?
If you're just looking for an opinion, get the GTX 970.
