Hi guys after some great advice on here, upgraded my pc, at the moment i have
motherboard GIGABYTE GA-78LMT(Socket AM3+)
amd fx 4300
geforce gtx 950
all worked great till I installed some new paired ram 2x6 gb 1600 ddr3, took me while to figure out that the ram was making the computer freeze and then either crash or restart, I noticed that it was showing 16 gb but only using 8 gb,
if I change the ram back to my old 2x4gb 1333 ddr3 it all works great.
my question is is the new ram corrupt or do i need to change settings in bios or anything after fitting the new ram,
Cheers
Guys

Not all ram works with all motherboards. The Ram you bought, is it on this list?

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#

(click "Memory support list")

Not all ram works with all boards, trust me, thats why board vendors have those lists, it shows the ram that was tested to work right.

Many things can cause that.

Make sure the ram is fully seated in the correct slots (pull it out and put it back in if you have to)

Check your bios for a function called memory remap and make sure its enabled.

Go into MS config, click on boot, then advanced, then make sure memory limit is unchecked

Read your motherboard manual.
It will tell you which two slots you are to install two sticks of ram. They may not be the obvious ones.

Test your ram with memtest86+. You should complete a full pass with NO errors.

To check ram compatibility go to the ram vendor's web site and access their ram selection app.
Enter your motherboard and you will get a list of supported ram kits.
Your ram should be on the supported list.

You hopefully bought a kit, not two separate sticks. Ram needs to be matched.

thanks for that, i will follow your instructions, what i have noticed is since putting in new ram today, 2x8gb when playing a game, it crashes and shows message of TDR detected, its only doing this with the new memory, my old ram 2x8gb runs great.

hi guys, thanks for the replies, I downloaded speccy to find out more info on the ram iu have,
the old ram that works great is
kingston 2x4gb ddr3 pc3-10700 (667MHz) pn 99p5471-011 AOOLF both sticks match
The new ram
kingston 2x8gb ddr3 pc3-12800 (800 MHz) pn 99p5471-002 AOOLF sn 67763344
what i noticed as well when i did the ram test yesterday and today with speccy, 1 of the new sticks dus not show part no or serial and the design date on one is a month later.
