Air cooling vs water cooling

If I am going to overclock my CPU then do I need to have a water cooler or will an air cooler be ok

In general, you don't need one if you only intend to OC by a few hundred MHz. Most air coolers will do just fine.

It depends on how far you want to overclock your CPU and the CPU itslef. But mostly, if you don't push it to extreme voltages, you can do it with air cooling

And it depends on which air/liquid coolers you are comparing. The 212 EVO (for example) is equal to many 120mm AIO liquid coolers.

I find my 6600k stays very cool, I haven't over clocked it yet but during stability tests I struggle to get it over 50C and my fans are only just around 50% and that is only with the Noctua NH U9S cooler with 92mm fan. If you go for a big air cooler then air cooling should be fine, I think Skylake opened the door for air cooling much more then Haswell did.

Cryorig H7 is enough for some overclocking.
