+ wired connection directly to modem = perfect (80 down)
+ wired connection through router = perfect (80 down)
+ wireless connection through router = only good (50 down), but wireless so whatever
+ wired connection through switch to router to modem = not perfect; 1 tests at 40 down and 1 tests at 20 down, even after switching wires

1) Is there a way to test the ports on the switch?

2) Is there a way to test the cable in the house?

Connecting a laptop directly to the switch showed that the switch was also fine. The culprit?

Always remember ALL of your networking hardware... There was a UPS with "ethernet protection" that had gone bad under the desk and behind the wire nest.
