Is it OK to apply thermal paste and not turn on the system for X days?

Applied mx-4 last weekend, but because of some fitting issues, haven't yet completed the build. The system has yet to be powered on. The paste won't get, I don't know, bad or anything?

Also, while applying (line method), the line went slightly off-center. It's not end of the world, is it?

So you put thermal grease on the heat-sink and attached it to the CPU. But you haven't turned the system on in days and you want to know if that is a problem? If that is your question then no it shouldn't be an issue. Now if you have removed the heat-sink from the CPU during that time you may want to clean it off both surfaces and reapply it to be safe.

As the the line method question as long is there is a light film over the CPU you should be fine. If part of the CPU did not get any thermal grease on it that is an issue.
