Recently I got the HTC Vive, and after a short time of fiddling around with it, my computer crashed. The fans were still spinning, but the display was blank. Now, this isn't too unusual since I needed to OC my CPU in order to reach the minimum specs to support the thing and that caused it to blue screen occasionally until I found a stable voltage (granted, those times it would actually display the blue screen, rather than the display simply blanking), so I upped the voltage another hundredth of a volt and went back to it.
When I started playing again, it seemed stable, so I swung my head around to try and stress it a bit, and it immediately crashed again. This time though, the computer completely powered down, fans and all, and it wouldn't turn back on again. If I switched it off, unplugged it, pressed the power button, plugged it back in, switched it on, and then tried turning it on, the fans would twitch slightly before stopping, which after looking on Google seemed to indicate PSU failure. I (incorrectly) confirmed this by trying the paperclip test, which I apparently did incorrectly, cause it turns out that it still works.
This lead to a lot of fruitless troubleshooting, which I'll spare the details of, but eventually I figured out that it would start up fine so long as my GPU's (a CLUB3D R9 290 Royalking) power isn't plugged in. It's got a both a 6 pin and 8 pin port, and when they're unplugged, the computer starts up fine, even the GPU's fans spin up, but when they're plugged in, it acts as previously described. It's almost brand new, I bought it almost a year ago specifically for VR, and until now it's worked great (granted, I had to RMA the first one I got).
Is there any saving it, or is it completely dead? What should I do to prevent this from happening again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My specs are as follows.
CPU: i7 2600k 3.4 GHz OCed to 4.5 GHz at 1.41 V
GPU: CLUB3D R9 290 Royalking, OCed slightly, can't remember how much
PSU: XFX Pro 750W XXX Edition at the time it died, I borrowed a friend's Corsair 800W (not sure of the model) in the course of troubleshooting, with the same results
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3
RAM: 4 GB Kingston ValueRAM, 4 GB of... Some other brand, I can't really remember. I'll look it up if it's important
