I apologize for such a long description but this is a very specific problem and I haven't been able to find a solution, even through Acer's support, which was basically useless.

I've researched a lot about this and most responses say to run games in windowed mode, or force lower resolutions to get the game to launch, then change the display settings once I'm in-game. However, I've done this for all my games (only about a dozen), but it continues to happen; not every launch, but sporadically, every few times I launch a game. I have an Acer XB241H, a fairly new monitor. Its a 1080p monitor that I have running at 144hz with G-Sync enabled. I've verified the game cache for each game, which was another suggestion for this issue, and I've set everything accordingly for each game (I have them at 1920x1080 and 144hz, as well as the correct aspect ratio) and I have played each game with no problem at 1080p and achieving frame rates at or around 144fps. No issues. But, every now and then, I get no signal and have to hard reset my PC. Can't Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Shift+Tab, nothing.

Most recently, I Alt-Tabbed out of a game, and it caused this problem to occur again. I can hear game sounds/music, but have no control. Cant click or type anything, completely frozen. This most recent occurrence happened while playing GTA5. Since it happened, I cannot get the game to run in full-screen, it will just crash as described above. I can force it to open in windowed mode, but when I change the settings to 1920x1080p and full-screen, the monitor shuts down and the PC freezes. It just makes no sense to me because I have played hours and hours, consecutively, of all my games; the problem only occurs on launch, or Alt+Tab. All NVIDIA drivers are up to date, as well as Steam, Windows, etc. All settings relating to my screen resolution, refresh rate, G-Sync, etc. are set correctly. I can typically troubleshoot most problems I run into but I just don't know what to do about this, I've tried everything that I think could fix it, but I'm getting nowhere. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Solution
try setting the monitor to 60hz as a test like on the dell which didn't have this problem to see if problem goes away?

Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition

Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 950 2GB Video Card

I am using a DisplayPort cable to connect.

If it's worth mentioning, since I am still just trying to think of what could cause this, I am thinking that when most games launch, their FPS is usually very high, like in the couple hundreds, (according to two different FPS counters I use) and then they settle back down to where they should be after a few seconds, or until the following scene/menu. Is the high FPS on launch demanding too much from the monitor and the monitor is just shutting down? I mean, that doesnt make much sense as just a few weeks ago I was using a crappy 60Hz Dell monitor and this never ever happened.

Ok I think I may have solved it, as it hasn't happened in the last 24 hours and when I launch a game, there is less flickering than there usually is and the transition is smoother. For some reason my monitor was "overclocked" to be able to attain anything from 160-180hz, but my PC was set to display 144hz in NVIDIA control panel. I turned the overclock off, as when I had done so previously, my only option was to run at 60hz, so I put it back on, because I thought the monitor needed the overclock because it says its a 60hz monitor on Acer's website. Well I turned off the overclock and opened NVIDIA control panel and it was now showing the option for 144hz. So I set it to 144 and left the monitors overclock off and everything seems fine now. :)
