Hey there
I'm a hardcore gamer
My current rig:
i7 6700k
2x ASUS gtx 980 Ti matrix
64 gb corsair platinum ddr4

Now this cpu seems to bottleneck my gpu at 4k gaming so i am looking for another build but this time with a high end cpu and mobo and rest things same.
I know i7 5960x but i was also considering xeon processors but i don't know much about them.
My budget is $1200 for cpu and $500 for mobo and i wanna know should i go for the i7 or a xeon

1) DirectX 12? WHEN new games start using that... Until then, looks like most stuff are using stuff like OpenGL.
2) 90 FPS in Tomb Raider? At 4K, right? Seems right to me.

I got a feeling you're looking more towards the Xeon because you're looking for the best of the best.

Well... This is more powerful at $1200 (in a different sense).

Overclock your cpu to see if the FPS increases. If the FPS does not increase after overclock, you won't benefit from a more powerful cpu. Be happy with what you have now. If you must have more core, wait for skylake E.

Honestly i think you are chasing something that is just going to rob your own wallet in the end.
90FPS is REALLY good, you are not limited at all, and you are at 4K.
Stop reading FPS and start enjoying your games.

Yeah i do know about it.
Actually i am a heavy multitasker
I stream games ,install them, play music, download updates, render videos simultaneously so quad core cpu gets limited for me
Now the octa core would full fill my needs i guess

That should have been something you mentioned earlier.

Just tested my new rig
Believe me guys the 5960x is a monster as compared to 6700k
I got a major boost in fps in few games like GTA 5(avg 75) but only a little 5 fps boost in tomb raider.
The new games coming soon this year will definitely take advantage of the multiple cores in 5960x

And multitasking in this rig is flawless
