Diablo III RoS is getting a black screen for a few seconds then back to the game. The worse case is a complete system lock.

I recently went from an Intel build to this AMD build and since the change, Diablo III has been doing what the title says. My temps are fine: CPU max at 40C and my GPU maxing around 50-55C. Nonetheless I took each hardware apart for cleaning for the sake of troubleshooting and still seeing same results. I uninstalled the Radeon driver offered for my (legacy) Radeon 4850 HD and let Windows find the appropriate driver. That has helped a bit b/c before doing that the PC would lock up. With the Windows driver detection, the screen will go black a few seconds but come back to the game. Everyone once in a while it's a total lock of the PC.

I'll just toss this out there for anyone to chew on: RAM slots 3 and 4 are dead so I have my 2x 2GB sticks in slots 1 and 2. I'm not quite sure that will cause a problem or not, though. Memtest showed no errors, either.

This ONLY occurs when playing Diablo III game. It's the only game on this PC right now.

It operates under normal load of daily activities just fine.

I'll also add (b/c I've wondered it myself) when I converted from the Intel build to the AMD build I did NOT put a fresh Win10 install on the HDD. Can this cause issues in regards to my question in the topic?

PC Specs:

CPU - AMD A-4 3300
Mobo - Biostar TA75A+
GPU - AMD Radeon 4850HD 512mb
RAM - 2x 2GB G-Skill 1066 DDR3
PSU - Corsair CX 500w
Windows 10 x64
Latest BIOS is installed

If anyone needs more pertinent info, I'll gladly round that up for you!

Thanks in advance.

Hi;

"I uninstalled the Radeon driver offered for my (legacy) Radeon 4850 HD and let Windows find the appropriate driver. "

Have You tried to download the latest Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta (Yes it will work for Your system). https://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/non-whql-64bit-nieg-radeon-crimson-16.2.1-win10-win8.1-win7-feb27.exe
After You have downloaded it > right click on the Setup file > Run as an Administrator

"RAM slots 3 and 4 are dead so I have my 2x 2GB sticks in slots 1 and 2. I'm not quite sure that will cause a problem or not, though. Memtest showed no errors, either.#

Well I suggest that You install the driver first, then uncheck most of the servicec in the Startup menu.

Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortuntely when I installed that driver package it came back w/ many errors stating that the majority of the install packages had failed. I uninstalled the driver I was using and tried again with the same error message.

This Radeon 4850HD I'm using worked perfectly fine in the Intel build, but since moving to this AMD build it's been nothing but troubles when playing Diablo 3.

Hi,

Perhaps its time to test your memory?
Download and burn on a CD (it's a small program) or put it on a booatble flash stick http://www.memtest.org/
The computer will boot up and directly running the memory test. You should let it run for at least over night. If there are any error you can just shutdown the computer. Nothing at all will happen to your operating system and it will not under any circumstances be affected of memtest86+

Second: Maybe first do a System File check - hehe
This is an inbuilt commando in Windows and it will check the integrity of all system files and if necessary try to repair or otherwise swap them to new fresh ones.

It is preferred to run this in a fail safe mode:
Click Start > type boot > in the list click 'Change advanced startup options' > Advanced startup > Restart now > The computer will restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup settings > Restart > new menu and there You will press nr. '4 Activate fail safe mode' > Login with your administrator pwd and name (change to correct admin login name if necessary) > Right click on start > in the menu chose 'Command prompt (Admin) > new window (Command prompt) opens > type this and press enter:
sfc /scannow
