Hey!

Power: XFX TS550
MOBO: ASUS Z170-P
RAM: Crucial 2 x 4GB 2133
CPU: Intel i5 6600K
GPU: Asus Strix GTX970
SSD: Crucial 250GB

I bought parts for a new gaming rig, and assembled it about 3 months ago.
From the very beginning i've been having BSOD errors, but i managed to install Windows 7 succesfully. First, it worked for about 4 hours, and after that it crashed into SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION or STOP error 7E. I managed to install windows again after many tries (always crashed to some BSOD after the "windows is loading files" stage, but after a few tries it somehow managed to install again. It worked for a couple of months.

Recently the monitor started blinking a bit, and then announced that explorer.exe has crashed and restarts. After doing this about 5 times, the computer crashed into BSOD 7E again.
The computer couldn't be turned on without crashing into BSOD, so i thought i'd install fresh install of Windows again.. Now i can't even manage to do that, as it crashes to 7E again, and now all the text in the error is messed up and letters are on top of each other... There have been many different BSOD along the way, but i can remember 7E, 74, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION, some NON_PAGED_AREA thing, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER.

I've tested the RAM with memtest86, both sticks invidually, but the problem doesn't seem to be the RAM.

I need to know what part of the computer is broken, so i can get a new one and to get my computer working again! Sucks, that a new computer that cost fortunes doesn't work right from the start ..
Wouldn't want to take it to a repair shop at this point, as i've maybe got to use it for like 1 month in total, as it's always messing with me..

If someone could help, i'd be really thankful.

Solution
Alright, I got the computer checked out in a repairshop and they called me to inform that the CPU is broken. I sent it for RMA and hopefully get a replacement...
I would second that, the 550W is most likely not high enough in power to keep the system stable.

The thing is if you put a power supply in a system that is underpowered in the amount of Wattage and voltage it can output for the rest of the system components of the build it is put under a lot of stress trying to keep up with the power demand.

Because i`t been under so much strain to start with is why you are now getting crashes of the system as soon as you try to turn the system on Porttikortti.

A simple test if you have a good friend who has a more power full power supply unit than you currently have say 650W output is to ask to borrow it from your friend for an hour or so, just to confirm it is the case and the cause of it all is the 550W power supply.

Then simply go out and buy a higher rated PSU of a good brand name with a higher or same wattage out put.
Problem solved if the system is stable.
The CX range can be a bit flakey as said by Cresto +1.

Unfortunately I don't have a friend who has a higher W power source.
Could it really be it? In the beginning the power source also made a weird whistling/peeping noice, which i thought was some coil whine, and it disappeared kinda fast. This is normal, right? Or was that also because too much stress on the system? Before i bought the parts for this computer, i used many of those calculators that calculate how much power i need for the system, and all of them said 550W is more than enough..

I currently don't have Windows in there, as i wiped the ssd clean as it wouldn't let me boot the computer anymore (froze in the windows loading screen and gave a BSOD 7E). Now it doesn't let me install windows anymore, and just gives the BSOD 7E all the time when loading windows files pops up. What the hell is wrong with my computer? I've been 3 weeks without the computer, as i just can't figure it out. I stripped the computer down to just mobo, cpu, 1 stick of ram and PSU and SSD, but it still wouldn't let me install windows. Also tried with HDD, but wouldn't let me install windows on it either. The computer has always worked so i can access BIOS, but i cannot get any further anymore, as it just always freezes/gives BSOD when i try to install windows again....

bugcheck 0x7e you want to look at parameter 1 to get an idea why it failed.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff559239(v=vs.85).aspx

if you are getting parameter 1= 0xC0000005 it will often be related to memory timinging issues.
Ie go into BIOS, reset the BIOS to defaults, boot memtest on its own boot image and test your memory and make sure it works as expected.

- maybe update the firmware of the SSD
- maybe boot into the BIOS and let the SSD be powered but not in use, after 5 minutes of idle it should run its internal clean up routines and my start working after the cleanup completes.

- you might move your SSD to a different SATA controller and port. Generaly the primary SATA controller supported by the CPU is most likely to work.

be sure you are running a current version of the motherboard BIOS. The BIOS sets up the hardware electronics before the drivers take over.

I've tried everything. It can't be the memory, as i've run memtest multiple times for like 8 passes for each stick in different slots, never any errors. I've put the BIOS settings to default. I even bought an official retail version of windows 10 to make sure it's not the flash drive's fault, it still doesn't install. I'm taking it to a repair shop this week, i'm looking forward to see what causes the problem, and hopefully get it fixed and don't end up paying 400 euros for it..... I'll post here when i find out what the cause was. Everyone must be as excited to know as i am. Might also help someone else who experiences similar problems!
