I got a new computer now 2 weeks ago and it ran fine until it began to freeze at startup sometimes, but when i pass the startup and reach the desktop it works only fine but when i enter a game or google chrome and other browsers the windows not responds but i can still use my mouse. I think this is a HDD error (Internal, not external) so here's what i areadly done:

- Ran CHKDSK
- Did all Windows updates (Windows 7)
- Ran Anti-Virus

NOTICE: I have only 1 HDD!

Solution
You might need to buy a win 7 licence key off Microsoft as you can download the installer now but its no good without a key.

USAFRet is right a fresh install will make pc seem faster for a while and remove any crap left over from old owner.

that is probably windows seeing you turned it off without shutting it down normal, it does a check every start up to make sure pc turned off right.

Download this and give us a list of what is inside your pc: https://www.piriform.com/speccy

download a program like Driver Booster and see if any new drivers for pc, it might stop the micro lags.

its possible the reason the person sold it was it has a problem, but we shall see.

Its doing well for a 10 year old pc. Give it some time, its doing best it can

You can test the hdd with: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/hardware-testing-software/fl/samsung-hutil.htm

open speccy, click on the motherboard heading and tell me what bios it has - there might be a new one on the Asus site as it still had updates until 2014.

Did you run Driver Booster? there are some win 7 drivers on the Asus site but i assume it would have found them too.

2009.. thats so recent...

Okay, go here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5B/HelpDesk_Download/
select windows 7 32 bit from drop down,
select bios and get this one: P5B 2104 BIOS dated 2014/02/08

now to figure out how to do it... oh look a wild mod appears. and a video :

I was skirting around the idea they may not have a serial code on pc

An anti virus scan and a scan by malwarebytes wouldn't hurt.. fresh install probably best but do you have the dvd or serial number to do it?
