Would an i7 be needed if I choose to render using gpu?

Will there be a difference between the 6600k and 6700k of I choose to use my GPU (probably a 970 or 1070) for rendering? Trying to save money in order to get better peripherals and I know there should not be a problem in gaming, but will 8 threads be needed if I choose to render using my GPU?

then sure, go for 970, as for cpu take what you think you will need. Like I said i7 better for editing because of hyperthreading, i5 also amazing, slower than i7 when it comes to editing but same performance in games

I'll be needing it for 3d modelling. And afaik the software ill be using (blender for hobby, probably auto desk for architecture) allows me to fully choose the GPU. Still not 100% sure what other software. Will have to wait for my architecture course to start.
I know quarto would be better. But the 970 seems as good as the quarto for the same price. And I'll also need the GPU for gaming.
