Hello everyone,
I'm planning to get myself a big hardware upgrade, which would include:

>Asus MAXIMUS VIII RANGER
>Intel Core i7-6700K
>SilentiumPC Grandis
>16GB of DDR4 RAM
(I own a Gigabyte GTX 980 and I'm not planning to change it any time soon.)

I'd be upgrading from:

>AMD FX 8370 with a cheap CPU cooler
>8GB of DDR3
>ASUS M5A99X EVO

And my question is: Is it worth to go with it and enjoy the gaming(would it be efficient enough for next years?), or save money, wait, and/or get cheaper counterparts? I keep hearing about Zen, Pascal, so I wonder if it's not a waste of money to get an upgrade like that instead of waiting for new technologies. Any words of advice greatly appreciated.

I'd agree, if it's primarily for gaming then something like a $200 motherboard isn't necessary though that's up to you and your budget. The gpu would likely be the first thing that needs upgraded, intel cpu's haven't made overly huge advancements in the past 4-5yrs. I wouldn't expect them to be 'outdated' anytime soon. The gpu is high end so it should also be good for a few years.

Pascal is nvidia's new gpu technology and since you mentioned you have the 980 and aren't planning to replace it anytime soon there's no real reason to worry about pascal. Zen is amd's new cpu architecture scheduled to come out toward the end of the year. No idea what prices might be like until it's announced, same with performance. Many speculate best case...

You won't have any problems with future games I can guarantee that. If you'd like to see how your rig would perform in games go to www.game-debate.com and just enter your parts and search for any game.

While there's nothing wrong with buying the high end parts, you can accomplish the same thing with an i5-6600K and a medium priced board, saving you a bunch of money. This assumes were talking about a system primarily made for gaming.

The thing is, it's not that much about the price, I just wouldn't want a situation where I'd get all these high-end parts I chose and in a year I'd have to already replace something because technology went so much further and even 980 + 6700k which nowadays is high-end hardware wouldn't be able to handle newest productions

Many speculate best case scenario would be similar to haswell performance so I wouldn't be too concerned with zen outperforming skylake. Skylake is already here, tested and proven with benchmarks. There's probably another good 5mo or possibly more before zen arrives.
