I'm using an older (2005) PSU with my new build. I want to put in an MSI GTX 980 GPU that requires 2x8-pin Power Connector. My PSU is a Maxxtro MX-650-PSU. What I've found on it: https://ciiva.com/part/mx-650-psu-20482529

The power supply has the following PCIE Power line configuration:
6 wires (3 back 3 yellow) go to a 6-pin connector marked "PCI Express", the wires then come back out of the connector and go to another 6-pin connector marked "SLI Ready", which has two black wires backing up again to an unmarked 2-pin connector. I'm assuming I could use either of the 6-pin connectors together with the 2-pin connector for one of the 8-pin GPU inputs, and since the GPU comes with a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, use the second of my PSU 6-pin connectors for that. So far it sounds wonderful...

If I'm right about all the above, the question is since the PCIE connector standard is rated for 75W, and my configuration is cascaded, can the cable handle the 165W GPU? Would I be better off using a Molex to 8-Pin PCIE Adapter for one of the GPU's inputs instead of running everything off one wire? I have a whole train of molex outputs that are unused so far.

What if I go for the 250W 980Ti instead?
Thanks for the help.

I really have no preference. I live in Switzerland though, so not all brands might be equally represented here as in the US, and Newegg doesn't deliver here...
So based on these answers, PCIE cables usually only come with one plug at the end?

good 650w units come with at least four pcie 6+2 cables

get a tier 1 or 2 psu in 600w or better from this list:
