So I have a problem with my computer freezing, sometimes it will happen everyday or so, other times it won't freeze for around 2 weeks then it will freeze again. I've tried looking around here for possible solutions, I've ruled out my ram, video card, and psu, I've recently returned my psu since it was under warranty to see if that'd fix it, I've used memtest86 to test the ram and I'm certain my video card isn't the culprit either because I used it for a year in a previous build. I haven't overclocked any parts of my system either. What happens when the computer freezes is the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive and the image on my monitors will be frozen to whatever was currently on it. I need to hard restart to be able to use my computer again

Specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Geforce GTX 970
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB DDR4
Motherboard : MSI Z170A Gaming M5
Powersupply : Corsair 750 watt CX750M
OS : Windows 10 Pro
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

SSD is the bootdrive by the way.

Solution
Win 10/DirectX 12 in general. I swapped my boot SSD in early Febuary(clone job failed), re-installed Win 7, then did the free upgrade. It's been crashing ever since. My investigation has lead me to the conclusion that it's Win 10/Direct X 12. Some have tried installing old NVidia drivers. I tried it, to no avail. The common theme is two things, Win 10 and Nvidia cards. I've yet to hear about a problem with AMD cards. I had no problems with Win 7 in January. Leading me to Win 10/DirectX 12.

It's Win10/Directx 12. I hate being the bearer of bad news, it's happening a lot. I have it too. In fact I was going to answer your question a few minutes ago and my system crashed. We all hope microsoft comes out with a major update/service pack very soon.

While I do think it may have something to do with windows 10, this has been going on for me since January. Would this encompass windows 10 as a whole, or just this recent update?

Edit: And by that I just mean the freezing.
