Had a black edge on the printout of laser printer, used alcohol to clean the drum and corona wire. Meanwhile add black ink powder. Then things get much worse. Full page full of black marks and drum is covered with ink powder.
Cleaned twice and has the same result.
Help!!! DId I damage the drum? Do I have to replace the drum and toner?

Solution

Man those guys are idiots... basically anything on the transfer side will cause issues if not done properly. Guess some manufacturers are really bad at putting warnings.

Well, for now try to make sure you use the right concentration of solvent and do it again, letting it dry a day or so before you test it.
Who the hell said you should clean the inside of a laser printer? Basically anything other than light blowing from a hand pump can leave residue or make the feed lose charge and leave powder clinging everywhere. Take it to a professional repair center or replace it, more likely than not you did end up damaging it.

I've seen issues like that when the transfer feed is broken (basically a large drum in larger/older laser printers), but it's more likely gunk buildup, especially if you print thousands of pages a year. If you can smear off the ink easily on the side of finished prints, it might be the fuser, but generally that thing cleans itself.

I didn't print that much during the year. The very thick black mark is printed on the paper and can't be smeared. There are ink powder on that part of the drum before I clean it. Does that mean drum was bad already? Anyway I bought a new drum and cartridge for $20.

Finally find out the reason, it's not the drum. It's because I didn't clean the existing toner before adding new toner so they mixed and get bad result. I can use the new cartridge with old drum.
