Hi,
I'm not a computer tech guy and I have a few questions as I'm planning to have a dual boot in my computer. My computer configuration right now is :
1. One Hard Disk (500 gb) become drive C and drive D
The drive C (100 gb) has Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit and currently is working normal.
The drive D (400 gb) is for Data.
2. One other Hard Disk (300 gb) as drive E , also for data.
My Gigabyte B85M-HD3 mobo has an integrated audio and graphic. RAM 2 x 4 gb.
The graphic is Intel HD 4600, The CPU is Intel i5-4460 but I don't know about the audio.
The connection is via HDMI cable from HD4600 output to my LG TV HDMI input.
Sound and display from the HD4600 HDMI output in my LG TV currently is working normal.
I still have : (which I used in XP SP2 32 bit before I move to Win7 )
1. an old PCI-E graphic card (with the driver)
2. an old PCI SB Live! Value (with the generic driver) sound card
3. Win XP SP2 installation CD
Now, I'm thinking to install XP SP2 OS into the drive E.
My plan is :
1. From Win7, format the drive E (the 300 gb one) and make it into two parts.
The first part is 20 gb reserve for XP SP2 OS installation
The second part (the rest, 280 gb) is for the data.
2. Disconnect the Hard Disk (the 500 gb one) that has Win7 OS.
3. Plug those two old cards into the mobo slot.
4. From the mobo bios setup choose to boot from CD-rom, then using the installation CD - install the XP SP2 into the 20 gb part.
5. After the XP installation finished, install the drivers needed for those old cards.
6. Turn off the computer, reconnect the 500 gb Hard Disk (the one with Win7 OS).
Now my first question : is the six step plan above correct ?
Assuming the answer is Yes, it's a correct steps ...
My following questions are :
1. Is there any difference if I format the 300gb Hard Disk
A. from Win7 ? (as mentioned in the step 1)
B. during the XP installation ?
2. Assuming I don't want to use the old graphic card, can Intel HD4600 graphic display on my LG TV via HDMI connection in default (without any drivers) during XP installation ?
3. After I reconnect the 500 gb Hard Disk,
a. will I be in Win7 OS if I choose to boot from the 500gb in the mobo bios setup ?
b. will I be in XP OS if I choose to boot from the 300gb in the mobo bios setup ?
c. whatever I choose what Hard Disk to boot in the mobo bios setup, the computer is confuse, freeze/hang, so I will be in nowhere OS . What is the solution in this case ?
4. Assuming all works well,
when I'm in Win 7 OS - will it recognize the 300 gb hard disk ? (so I still can copy-paste data to the second partition of the 300 gb)
when I'm in XP OS - will it recognize the 500 gb hard disk ? (so I still can copy-paste data to the second partition of the 500 gb)
I'm very sorry for the long post and my broken English.
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advanced.
regards.
