GPU stupidity moments

Hello again everyone,

This is my second return to post the stupidity I've done on my gaming pc. Just wanted to know how screwed I am with the mistake I just made. I recently purchased some can of compressed air to clean up my rig (Everything looks good now). However, before I cleaned it up, I've put in some magic tape (easy to remove without leaving adhesive on the surface) on the system fans, CPU fan and the three fans of my Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming to make sure their motor are not spinning while cleaning with the compressed air.

You may now have an idea of what has happened,

After cleaning, I've booted it up and immediately checked GPU-Z if my temps has improved. To my surprise it has higher than expected idle temps and it it RISING! Then it hit me, I forgot to remove the tape of my GPU! (I died inside) It was about a minute until I realized that the GPU fans were still taped.

I noticed that the fans were hot when I removed the tape, I immediately turned the system on once I removed the tape and the fans were spinning, then booted up. Then after 10 seconds the whole system shut down (I died again inside).

After 5 seconds, I unplugged the whole power system and turned it on again and it finally booted up until Windows loaded up. I ran some bench marks again and I'm getting the same score as before. I've also checked the fan speed in GPU-Z and it seems to be normal as before and all three fans are working. I've put my PC on a stress test for a whole day without shutting down, sometimes leaving it on a game that is graphically demanding (Witcher 3 or Fallout 4) and no shutdown nor crashes. Finally, I can say may system seems to be working. But I wanted to know how much damage I've caused with a minute (maybe a little more) with may three fans taped on my Gigabyte GTX 970.

I think you'll be fine tbh, some cards even high tdp ones can run passively until their loaded, not to mention modern parts will shut down before they overheat. As long as you only went on the desktop and didnt actually game/bench it unlikely youve done damage to the chip.

Yeah. I was actually rushing on cleaning my rig as I needed to go out, but I was indeed lucky I didn't play any games as soon as I booted it (with the gpu fans were still tapped). My system boots fast and I went straight to GPU-Z as soon as windows booted. I also noticed that whenever I turn of my system (after heavy gaming) the fan heads heat up, I'm guessing this is normal?

Yeah it's either I saved it or lessened the damage done to the motors. I was paranoid due to the system shutdown on my first boot up but everything looks good now. I can now attest of how durable this graphics card is, first one was I accidentally poured water on top of my case and seeped through the top ventilation, then dripped on top of the backplate/pcb. Blow dried for an hour and didn't use for a day and everything is good.

Reanimating this post. 5 months has passed and no further complications detected and my pc is still running like a champ. Still worried though with the lifespan of my GPU fans.
