Hey guys,

I was helping build a friends computer today and went to turn it on and it didn't post to the monitor however had all fans and everything running.

After disassembling the system, we found that it posted fine without the GPU connected on the motherboard, running fine off the onboard graphics, with everything else plugged in, pointing to an issue with the GPU.

I then took his GPU and plugged it in to my system and it worked fine and loaded up a couple games. Which then led me to believe it was a faulty PSU.

So I took my gtx 970 g1 and plugged it back into his system and again it didn't work.

I tried moving his and my GPUs down to the lower PCE lanes but again it wouldn't post with the GPU installed.

I was just wondering whether this is a PSU issue in not providing consistent power to the computer, OR, if it's a motherboard that has all its PCI lanes faulty, which I think it's highly unlikely.

If anybody could help me out that would be awesome.

Specs are :
6600k
Gigabyte 7170x gaming 3 SLI
Msi gtx 970
G.skills ripjaw 8gb
Cooler master b2 series 500w
