Hey all,

I am replacing my AMD Phenom II X4 965 with an AMD FX-8350. My motherboard is the Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3. The AMD FX-8350 is not listed as supported on the Asus website but there have been numerous posts of people who have gotten this to work by simply updating their BIOS.

When I installed the FX-8350 and went to power up my computer, nothing happened on my monitor. The computer powered on but there was no sign of anything working on my monitor. I could not access my BIOS either. I swapped back the processors and tried updating my chipset drivers, reset my CMOS, I also tried changing the version of my BIOS from 3030 to 3029. From what I have seen, both versions seem to work with this CPU. I am really just trying anything I can think of, I am not the best with this stuff so I am unsure if these would even make a difference for this kind of issue.

I also replaced my old HDD as it was 7 years old and so I reinstalled windows 7 at the same time. I did all the updates but more and more keep popping up as the days go by. I have not tried putting the FX-8350 back in since Saturday when I thought most of the updates were complete. Then on Sunday night, I was prompted to update 232 important updates for Windows. Would this make a difference? Is it worth swapping them again or would this have nothing to do with it?

Before I try to return the FX-8350, I want to try see if I can get any answers because it would be a nice upgrade and would do a much better job at keeping up with my GTX 960.

Thanks

Getting windows updated has nothing to do with the recognition of a CPU on the motherboard. This is being handled by BIOS. If the CPU is not on the support list is probably because it is not supported ? In all honesty, I would not use that CPU on that motherboard even if you get it to work.

Greetings Spletz,

Thank you for sharing your post. I concur with Andrei-Florin Gogan, The FX-8350 will not be compatible with the M4A89GTD PRO/USB3. As a friendly reminder, user's installing parts not compatible on the ASUS Qualified Vendors List are likely to encounter compatibility issues. For more information on compatible CPU's for your motherboard make sure to visit: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A89GTD_PROUSB3/HelpDesk_CPU/.

I agree with you Spletz the FX-8350 would be a nice upgrade to match with your GTX 960. If you are interested in keeping your FX-8350 make sure to check out compatible motherboards. (i.e. ASUS 970 PRO GAMING/AURA, ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0, Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0, etc.) Good luck with the updates and let us know if you have any questions.
