I'm currently looking into a variety of CPUs to use for work, and someone had mentioned, the Xeon I was looking at (Xeon E5-2650 V3) might not work with any consumer stuff due to it being a server CPU. Is this entirely true? Most of my work is done with videos, and a program called handbrake and someone recommended the Xeon, to help with multitasking between projects. I've seen fantastic deals on it, but still am unsure.

Solution
Server CPUs will happily process consumer applications and run games. There is, however, a large difference between GPUs (and their drivers) for gaming and for professional work.

There have been a lot of discussions about using Xeons for gaming because the Xeon part for a certain family and speed may be cheaper than the consumer part. Some will run on consumer motherboards, some will require a server motherboard.

You made in interesting typo in the subject. I have never had a "sever" CPU. Been tempted to sever one now and then. Severely so,
