So I got a new router and in the living room (where the router is) I get 20mbps. In our basement we get 15mbps but for some reason in my room (which is closer to it than the basement) I get 1-4mbps on my computer BUT if i check the speed on my phone its 16mbps.. any idea why this is? My wireless card worked fine on our old router so it shouldnt be that.

Check and make sure all are set for the ac spec. If you don't see that on you settings on the computers that would be your problem. If that's the case change the router to operate at the fastest speed your adapters in the computers will support. That would make a big difference on your actual speeds. Seems like there's a mismatch on the protocol settings. If the router is set to operate on the ac spec and the computers are not that will severely degrade your wireless network. Also have the router pick the channel automatically. That will allow for it to avoid other routers on another channel and not use the same one. Your adapters would also need to be set that way as well.
