Recent massive FPS drop in every game

I purchased a pre-built gaming pc about six months ago and recently I've had some issues with FPS lag in almost every game. These games have been running fine until recently. This issue started about two weeks ago.

I looked online and thought this issue could be overheating from dust in my PC so I cleaned out my computer multiple times with no effect. My CPU doesn't seem to be overheating, I've checked my PC's temps on SpeedFan. I don't think I have a virus; only my games have been affected, everything else is fine. I also have antivirus software.

My specs:

GPU: GeForce GTX 760
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Memory: 12 GB RAM
OS: Windows 10

Update: I have also noticed something strange happening with my newest game, Dark Souls 3. Before it would just lag all the time, but recently it would been fine when I first play the game and lag when I respawn after I die.

I don't know too much about PCs and this is my first thread so pardon me for any mistakes.

Solution
Very strange then. How are your drivers, do you have them installed, up to date? I would assume so if you haven't run into any lag previously, but I'm just checking all bases here.
Often video setting get adjusted by software that is trying to help you. Go back to video section of games that are lagging. Note video setttings. Have the game reset teh video to whatever defaults it chooses when it sees you have a GTX 760 (nice card).

If that does not help then set the video resolution all the way down and see if you are still having FPS issues. If so then it's likely not video. If setting the video output to low quality makes the game fly then gradually increase video quality until you hit FPS issues.

Your i7-4790 can keep up with any game made today.

It rare, but sometimes if you fill up your disk it can have wierd effects. They do not normall show up as FPS hits, but check your C drive and see how full it is.

You have plenty of memory.

Good Luck.

I am pretty sure my web browsing or anything else has not been effected. The massive fps drop in my games is the only issue I have noticed.

Sadly this has not helped. My video settings have not been changed, they are the same as they were before the issue. Also, my C drive seems to be perfectly fine.

Ah, I feel stupid. I had to update my drivers and I think that solved my issue. I had to see if they were up to date, I did not get any notifications or warnings for updates. Well I am new to PC gaming and PCs in general, and now I know. Thank you for helping me out.

Sorry to bother you again, but the strangest thing happened. My games started to lag again! I just successfully played many of my games after I updated my drivers and there was no lag. I decided to check again and the second time the same games I just played were lagging again. Now I do not know what to do; my drivers are up to date.

Hmmm. Yeah, I really have no clue. If they weren't performing normally after the drivers, I could work from there. But if they work perfectly, then stop, it's hard to say what's causing it. What resolution are you playing these games at?
