This is my first time using this forum, so I do not know if this is the right category at all. Sorry if I got the wrong one!
I've been getting into Rainbow Six lately, and recently, about a week ago, I got massive prolonged framerate dips that I had not experienced before.
I do not believe that this is thermal throttling, at least to my knowledge.

SPECS:
Nvidia 860m
i7 4710HQ @2.5 GHz
1333MHz DDR3
Stock Lenovo motherboard

Example (places with framerate dips underlined in red)

Can't seem to get the image working so I'll just include a link
http://

Another possibly important fact is that this laptop is never unplugged (should have gotten a full blown PC I know :l )

Solution
Your specs looks quite good. Which title of Rainbow Six are you into? This will help us understand if you are using the right drivers.

The laptop being plugged to a power source can never be an issue. Just check if you have activated any "Power Saving mode/ Economy mode/ Low power mode". Such modes causes the discrete GPU (860 M in you case) to be inactive and uses the Intel GPU (HD 4600). That setting might be there in the:
1. Graphics Properties.
2.BIOS.
3.Nvidia Control panel.
