I recently purchased a new motherboard and I've ran into some problems regarding the sound. First off here are some specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Motherboard: MSI B85M-E45
RAM: 12gb DDR3

Down on the volume control in the taskbar there is a little red cross as if it is muted, clicking on it opens the troubleshooter (which can't identify the problem) and if I mouse over it a message pops up saying "No Audio Output Device is Installed."
In device manager the sound menu has two devices listed, both with yellow exclamation marks as can be seen below.

I'm pretty sure one of those is for the HDMI sound on my GPU, but the drivers that came with the motherboard disk are Realtek, which isn't listed there.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers from the disk but so far nothing has changed. All help is appreciated :)

Solution
The problem might of solved itself by downloading the newest realtek drivers from Windows Update. I know my system had trouble getting audio so I wiped it from the computer and Windows update automatically reinstalled it and the problem was solved. Another option that may of helped would be updating it from Device Manager.

Ok, the problems solved, though I'm not entirely sure how I did it.

I will list my steps here anyway just in case someone else is having similar troubles.

1. Uninstall Realtek HD Audio from programs
2. Uninstall On board Audio Bus Driver from device manager
3. Restart
4. ???
5. Profit

That's what I did and it worked, hope it can help someone else and sorry for wasting the time of anyone who was going to reply :)
