can't update CPU driver

Hi guys, I had an old PC that I pulled out from under my bed recently just to play around with the hardware, I made the rookie mistake of trying to put the CPU back into the MOB without taking the heat sink off first which bent all the pins (eeediot). I've brought a new CPU (AMD 64 x2, replaced from an AMD 64). Because the new CPU is a slightly newer model to the older one, I need to update my driver... The question is, how can I do this when I can't access BIOS, or even get past a blank screen? I get a repeating "beep" from the motherboard that lasts about 2 seconds, is my computer "dead"?

Thanks guys.

Solution
I would! I mean if you turned it on before and you know it worked right and the only thing you changed is the CPU then yeah maybe its dead.

But I would closely look at that socket and everything related to be sure its that, like I said you may have damaged it bending the pins removing the old one.

The PC is a Packard Bell Chopin (old), with an AMD 64 X2 CPU (was an AMD 64), the MOB is an ASUS M2NS-NVM/S , 2 sticks of 512DDR2 RAM running Ubuntu Linux 32-bit. The MOB light comes on when connected to power, all the fans are working correctly and everything from the HDD to the Memory card reader is connected as it should be.

I get a beep that repeats constantly at around 5 second intervals. I did get thermal paste on the CPU but I've cleaned every last bit off of the chip.

It's am AM2 socket and I've checked my MOB compatible CPUs and the AMD 64 x2 is on the list.

Ok thats good.

Did you buy the CPU used, its possible that it is DOA. The other thing could be maybe you damaged the socket when removing the old one (and bending the pins).

I brought it from https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000JD9S2E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is possible that it could be DOA, should I contact the user to see if it was tested before being sent out?

I'm going to message them now and see if they can help me, I've checked the socket and the pin holes seem a bit warped in the sense that they're not all exactly circular any more. I may just buy a new MOB closer to payday and rebuild it from scratch as it's an older PC anyway haha. Thank you for your help mate
