Hey folks,

First, I've used this forum for several years when I've had questions regarding various problems. Thanks for that.

On with my dilemma. I'm new to SLI. I built my first gaming computer 6ish years ago and I'm still using the bones of that computer today. As you read in the title, I can't SLI my dual GTX980s without my computer freezing or receiving the BSOD during a benchmark. Also, if the card comes under load during a game, it stutters but sometimes it freezes or BSOD's. I'm not sure really what to do.

Things I've tried: Tested both cards in both PCIe 2.0 slots I was using. Due to the persistent problem I have with NVIDIA drivers failing to install, I formatted my old SSD and put a new copy of windows on it with a fresh set of NVIDIA drivers. Updated windows and all the other drivers on that install. I've checked my mobo bios were up to date, returned the CPU to factory settings, removed my sound card, and I have SLI activated on the NVIDIA Control Panel and I've tried it with the driver released yesterday on 5/2 and the one released previously.

I've used 3D Mark and Heaven to test this build.

What do you guys think? I'm just frustrated.

Build:
Asus ROG Maximus III Formula
intel i5 750 Lynfield 2.66 OC'd to 3.7
H60 Corsair CPU cooler
8gb (4x2gb) Corsair DDR3 RAM (I've forgotten the model)
2x 4gb Gigabyte Windforce GTX980
Thermaltake Smart m850w (Bought 2 years ago)
250gb Samsung 850 EVO (64gb Kingston is what I'm using to test this)
2TB WD Green

I know this build is oldish now but it still holds it's own, at least for now.

Thanks Starcruiser for your advice. It turns out it was my PSU. I was really hoping it wasnt, but as I ran the benchmark the last time, the whole computer shutdown. Just went black. Went and got another PSU today and the SLI setup works great, with the exception of my physics score. Otherwise, it's fantastic. Thanks again for the suggestions.
