My custom built pc has been working for 3 months. Now every time i hit the power the lights and fans turn on for half a second then shuts down. This happens three times and it finally gives up. I have tested the psu with the paperclip test and then reset the cmos and even bypassed the power button incase it was faulty, no avail. I had no OC's and no new changes, the problem appeared out of the blue

Solution

Well puting in a new motherboard (if necessary) would mean tampering as well,so just try it.

Maybe,in the least likely way could it even be the cpu, you'll have to check it out.You could rma both at that time and see which will be replaced.

I have not changed it, I woke up one morning and it wouldnt boot. I dont have the money to get another psu rn, are there any other tests to narrow down the problem?

I found a psu to borrow but the same problem occurred. Could it be a short circuit as well, This is my first real problem with this pc...

Tried this as well?

Other thing to do is going even more basic and breadboard the system, test with only motherboard/cpu/ram (1 stick)

Tried a clear cmos? Can be done by using the right jumper, look in the manual for that one,or taking the battery of the motherboard out for about 5min.

I will try that, but I don't want to tamper too much if I don't have to. If all else fails is it the motherboard that I must replace?
