Yo,

I got a asus z170 pro gaming but the problem is after building it and having a lot of problems alrady.. It finally worked, after bringing it to the pc store. Problem being is, yesterday I was able to play a game (battleborn) did my windows installs etc. What happened after that? Well the pest won't turn on anymore I am at my wits end.

Could it be the CPU? Probably not the led lights still wave, tried taking out the videocard to wait and see what happene if I did that, no spark.

MY video card is a GTX 670 with a Inte i5 6600k and the psu is a 650 watt, so should be enough. Tried a different psu cable, tried a different electric source, didn't work. Checked every cable if it was snuck didn't work. So now I am at a loss. Maybe a fault with the motherboard, is there anything that could have happened? I just did some windows updates for petes sake.

Solution

You didn't screw in the motheboard standoffs? Then you most likely have your answer. The standoffs are the only thing that prevent the motheboard from touching the metal case and shorting. They MUST all be installed. By not installing them, you most likely caused your motheboard to touch the metal back of the case and short, killing the motherboard.

The only thing you can do if the above is the case is to try an RMA, and if that fails then buy a new...

Also can I ask that you do not swear or curse on this forum, I'm pointing toward the near end of your first paragraph.

What is the exact model of your PSU? There's a lot more to power supplies than wattage.

Sorry man I changed it I know swearing and cursing is bad, but well it gets to the best of us, I changed it to pest, I hope that acceptable?

Also I did the troubleshoot thing. Well those that I was able to do... And well only the leds burns on the motherboard. I think I didn't mount the motherboard well and my heavy aircooler must have dragged it which created little breaks... I think this has happened... :'(

How is this the solution..?

Best answer unselected as per request. Your PSU is fine; that's a very high quality one. Can you test your GPU in another PC? Also try booting on the integrated HD graphics (Connect video cable to motherbaord and remove GPU). Does the PC give off any beeps, or show any signs of life when the power button is pressed? (Fans spin, mothebroard and GPU lights turn on, BIOS screen displays, etc.).

Thanks! the GPU? Hmm I unplugged it since the cpu comes with onboard graphics, nothing worked. The GPU I got it in a different pc now, my old game machine, works fine . Nothing will spin when hitting the power button it's plain dead. I decided to take it to the pc store.

I did the standoffs correctly but the top 3 wouldn't fit so I didn't want to force the motherboard in and did not screw them in.

How does RMA work is that quite fast or does it take long?

Depends. ASUS is known to be picky with their RMAs, and in general RMAs usually take a couple of weeks to ship a replacement out (If they aprove a replacement). Alternatively, it could take a few days, depending on how busy they are.

You may want to try out the Swedish Fish Theory. It may motivate the ASUS support bloke to ship out a replacement faster, or even to approve it at all. It may not help, of course, but it's cheap and worth a shot.

I'm going to try this the next time I have to return something anywhere. I have a really nice traditional sweet shop near me with lots of hard candy like boiled sweets and rock.

So trying this :)
