So I want to upgrade my pc but I can only upgrade either the GPU or the CPU along with a new mobo..it's a gaming PC so I want to know the best upgrade to gain a fps boost...here's my current specs:
Cpu:AMD fx 8320
Gpu:r9 270
Motherboard:gigabyte GA 990xa ud3
So it's either getting Intel i5 4590 and a new mobo or crossfire my r9 270/get a gtx 960...which one is better for now???I want to get ready for games like bf5,cod infinite warfare, dishonored 2,doom,star citizen and the MMOs like wow, guild wars 2...my budget is ~450$...and I'm not in the US so things here are a little bit more expensive...

Solution
You have a tough combo of games there, for example Star Citizen is cpu intensive, as for the other games they may be.

I would NOT get another R9 270, while it benchmarks well you are going to run into all the BS that comes with crossfire (trust me I am crossfiring). The FX 8320 is kind of weak so I would consider the CPU upgrade first and then go for a GPU upgrade later once you can afford it. The R9 270 is still "ok" and should play all those games decently on mid - lower settings.

If I were you, here's the things that I'm considering.

1. Star citizen (like the guy above said) and most MMO titles don't like AMD FX processors, usually, it'll bottleneck even the GTX 960 on those games at say 1920x1080p.
2. I don't think crossfiring a 270 is a good idea, just too much hassle and I'm not even sure if all your games do in fact support crossfire.
3. Here's what I'll do

I don't think this will exceed $350 in other countries (except you're living in some countries that you'd probably don't know )

You can sell your 270, pay a bit more and get something like this:

Or wait, stay with your 270 and buy next gen cards later.

Agreed. Get the i5 now and hold off on the GPU until you have the money. Luckily, both AMD And Nvidia are releasing their new GPUs in a month or two. Both should require much less wattage than the previous generation.

Best of luck.

You'll get a FPS increase when and where you're CPU limited. Guild Wars 2 should show a massive improvement, Star Citizen and WoW a small improvement, and you may not see an improvement in the others.

On the other hand, a GPU upgrade probably won't improve your framerates at all in GW2, because it's such a CPU-bottlenecked game.

Since you play a lot of MMOs, I think a CPU upgrade is more appropriate for you.

The CPU upgrade will boost the FPS in some games, not all. At this point looking forward its about what will give you the most value for the amount you have. The processor and motherboard for your limited budget is worth more than a GPU, based on the one you have.
