New CPU, Computer Won't Boot Now

At the insistence of a friend, I decided to upgrade my CPU from an AMD Phenom II X4 970 (five years old) to an AMD FX-4350 Vishera Quad-Core 4.2 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W.

Mobo is Asus M5A97 EVO Socket AM3+ ATX AMD motherboard.

Recently installed a solid state drive, worked fine.

After upgrading the CPU, the computer doesn't boot. The power goes on, the fans spin, led lights come on, mobo lights are on, etc. However, there's no beeping. I can hear the hard drives running (still have my old drive for files, etc.). The monitor stays in shutdown mode, and there seems to be no power running to the keyboard (no lights come on) and mouse (infrared "ball" doesn't come on).

I put the old processor back. Same problem.

I removed memory, moved memory, tried new memory. No dice.

I disconnected the power cord, held the power button in for a bit, and then tried to boot again. Nothing.

Anyone have an answer? I'm hoping it's nothing more than the power supply, since I can't return the chip to Newegg and I really don't want to sink money into a new mobo!

Solution
That CPU is supported by that motherboard with BIOS version 1604 or later. If putting the old CPU back doesn't fix it, have you checked for bent pins in the CPU socket?
AMD sockets don't have pins, they're on the CPUs.

I recommend pulling the motherboard out of your case and running it with the bare minimum components: CPU, cooler, 1 stick of RAM, video card, PSU. Try different sticks of RAM in different slots. If you can't get it to boot, there's a fair chance you inadvertently damaged something, and will need to RMA or replace your motherboard.

Good point on the pins. So used to Intel users bending pins on BGA sockets ...
