both shift keys have stopped working simultaneously.

i have a toshiba satellite and after manually cleaning the keyboard, neither of the shift keys are working anymore.

i have checked sticky keys, and it is off.

i am wondering if this has anything to do with my hitting a combination of keys while i was cleaning it.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated. -sue

You did this with the computer on and the keybd attached?
How exactly did you clean it and what did you use to clean it?

thank you for your response.

it is actually a laptop so the keyboard is incorporated. i used a q-tip with a drop of alcohol on it, along with a thin computer brush.

Now, I just plugged in an external keyboard and the shift keys on this external keyboard are working. So do you think that this is a hardware problem? I am very confused and would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
