I have all of my incoming connections filtered through a UPS (power,LAN, coaxial, etc). The parts I used to build my PC are below:

CPU: i5....k
MOBO: asrock extreme3
RAM: (2)8gb
SSD: Samsung evo 250gb
HDD: 1tb
GPU: sapphire r9 290
Platinum rated psu ... From decent company...
Cheap case
4 cougar fans

I play games, watch streaming media, browse web, video chat, etc

I was watching a sitcom(hulu) and my TV shutoff. Most of the other devices where not affected. Just my GPU and TV. TV wont turn on at all.

GPU won't display. Sound is fine. Sitcom still playing sound for minutes after TV and GPU fail. I tried a different monitor with a DVI cord from GPU to Monitor and it didnt work. I plugged the new monitor into the VGA output from motherboard on PC and it worked.

Is my card broken?

What is next troubleshooting step?

Sounds like your UPS either has a tripped break or a dead battery. You mentioned that your TV is dead. Can you bypass the UPS and plug it into the wall. If it doesn't turn on, trying plugging a fan into the same wall outlet and see if that works. Sounds like your issue is power related: Either power surge or a complete lack of power.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I am in the process of trying to reseat the GPU. I bypassed the UPS that I use. Then I tried outlets in another room. Maybe once I reseat the card it will work.

Is there any danger of my motherboard causing this problem? If I take out this r9 290 GPU and use a friends old gtx650ti... Is it possible to damage my friend's card too?
