So i have this box which can receive wifi/wired internet if im correct:

Couple of these cables:
cat5e_snagless_grey-1.jpg

I have internet cable coming from the outside, what is the best way to connect all three : The PC, The Laptop, The phone?
I have 2 ideas

1. that i could either run the intenet cable straight to laptop, create my laptop as a wifi hotspot, so that my PC can receive it with the box, and phone can connect to the wifi.
2. That i could run cable to the box, then two cables from the box one to my pc and one to laptop, and create a hotspot of my laptop, so that phone can connect aswell

Anyways, i do not know how to do any of these 2 ideas, can you please help me? I am not like completely dumb, i know how to use logic and have had some expierience with computers before, but not with networking.

Solution
Yup.

A residential router uses NAT to let lots of computers share the same IP address. You can connect to it via ethernet (network cable) or via wifi.

Make sure you get one that does not say "DSL", and has five ethernet ports and an antenna.
Is that an ethernet switch, or a router - do you have the model number? What you really want for this is a proper wireless router with an ethernet WAN port.

If it's an ethernet switch, it does not support WiFi.

You can screw around with hotspots on your laptop, but they're a pain, insecure, performance is terrible, and I doubt you'll get it working properly.

I know, but i am not going to buy anything additional as of now, this box was bought as accident by someone who doesnt know what the heck they are doing:D , im thinking of this laptop hotspot as a temporary fix for a week or two, TP-LINK, model number is : TL-SF1005D , on the box its written desktop switch , but i think it can receive wifi, anyways, can you guide me trough the process somewhere where we can directly chat please? Ill appreciate soo much!!

So why does it have this on the box where its basically getting a signal from wireless router

The 5 port switch is connected via ethernet cable to the Modem/router, which also has Wifi capability. So you will need some sort of Modem/router to be able to connect to the outside world. The 5 port switch just gives you more lan connections to connect more devices.

Okay so the second idea would work right? To connect lan cable to my switch, so i can put one lan in PC and one in Lap, and make lap a hotspot for the phone:) And how would i be able to do it?

How are you currently getting internet service? Do you have a modem or a modem/router combination? Most ISP providers (at least here in the US), provide a modem/router device, and many have wifi capabilities also. Without a modem to modulate and demodulate the raw internet signal coming into the house, there is no usable internet signal.

I do not know actually to be honest, but i certainly do not have a modem, i have this white cable coming in from the window,
that connects to this little box
13120342_232347630464506_692349717_o.jpg

and blue cable then goes to my PC

I don't know what that little white box is, although I see it has DC power going to it. It "may" be a modem. Or it is possible that there is a modem at the other end of the white ethernet cable. Connect the blue cable to the WAN port on your 5 port switch (probably on the back side of it). Then you can connect your PC and Laptop to the front ports. As for making your Laptop a WIFI hot spot, I am sure it can be done, but I have never fooled around with that, as my ISP provided modem/router also has wifi.

the little box someone told me that it was a way to make signal stronger, i suspect there is a modem box or something like that in the other end, but i have no way to get there so ..., i also wanted to ask I already did that but if i remember correctly, internet didnt work on one of the computers, also, why is it when i enable internet connection sharing on my computer my internet stops working?

OK, that makes sense that the device is a signal booster. There is most certainly a modem somewhere in the signal chain. I am not sure what you mean by "enabling internet connection sharing on my computer" . Are you talking about making your laptop a wifi hotspot? If you connect both the laptop and computer to the 5 port switch, do they both work? I assume the 5 port switch also requires DC power, do you have the transformer plugged in to it?

No no, laptop hotspot is a different topic, enabling internet connection sharing is offtopic that i wanted to know:D sorry,
Okay so,
I just plugged in my pc and laptop and blue cable in my 5 port switch, and of course it requires power supply and i have that taken care of, but only on my pc internet works, on laptop it doesnt and it shows ''Unidentified network''

Ok, I am back from lunch. On your laptop, go to Control Panel, then Device Manager and scroll down to Network Adapters and expand that. Does the device listed have a yellow explanation mark next to it? You may have more than one device listed.

If there is a yellow explanation mark, right click the device and select Properties, then go to the Driver tab and Update the driver. Also make sure the device is Enabled in that same dialogue box.

Did the laptop ever work on this internet connection?

No yellow marks, it works only if i connect it first, actually i just did a small test with cables, basically only either PC or Lap works depending on which one i plug in first, and i think i stumbled upon the problem, when i plugged Lap first and then PC, my PC had this message:
13183161_232389013793701_1163655389_n.png

So how do i fix this?

As far as I know, you will need access to the router/modem's settings page to change the ip address for one of the 2 devices. For example on my router's settings, I can let the router assign the ip addresses dynamically as each device is "seen" by the router, or I can go into the settings and assign static ip addresses for each device.

Are you getting internet from a neighbor or landlord? Even if you could manage to connect to the router's settings, it is most likely password protected and even if it isn't I wouldn't recommend fooling around with the settings without permission.

Edit: But at least we have identified the issue. That's good news!

My ISP is like from a smaller branch of bigger ISP :D , anyways so, i do not know about basic principles or logic behind how any of the ip/dns or whatever works, but i remember once i reinstalled my OS and i had to get my ISP document, and had to type in IP adress dns subnet etc. manually otherwise net wouldnt work, and i think if ip is changed it wouldnt work...?

Also, why in this video is it shown to be simply fixed by some commands in CMD

Sorry, I am not familiar with the ISP setup you are describing. But it sounds like you are only being assigned one ip address for your location, and attempting to use 2 devices at the same time is causing the ip address conflict. You will probably have to contact your ISP and explain that you are trying to use a switch and 2 computers and see what they can offer as a solution.

Yes that could probably be the case, thank you so much, your help is really really appreciated!

You are welcome. Perhaps now that the problem has been identified, you should start another Thread here on Toms titled something like "Laptop and Computer have same ip address and can only use one at a time". Then briefly explain that you don't have access to the router's setup page and are using a switch to connect the 2 devices.

That way people with more knowledge of network configuration can jump in with thier expertise.

Okay haha, but a wifi router would not have this ''ip adress conflict'' right? And i could put main cable to router, and have another cable go from router to my pc aswell, because pc doesnt have wifi receiver.
