So I went to access my desktop and it showed that there was no internet via the red X on the Internet connection status. I tried connecting to a dofferent port on my router.. Didn't work.. I checked to see if it was the cable so I disable wifi on my laptop and tried running internet on it and it was working just fine.. Just can't access the Internet on my desktop. And this happened overnight! Last night I was working fine on it! Please help! It's finals week for me and I'm already stressed as is!!

Agree with Aspire's comment regarding the troubleshooter....

Also: try another cable anyway. It does not take much for a connector (either end) to fail. May not work in one system but still work in another because the fit, twist, cable alignment, etc. is just a tiny bit different.
In addition to the above, if you have Windows Updates set to install automatically, try rebooting. Sometimes Windows half-installs updates which kills certain drivers, but fails to automatically reboot. Meaning those devices won't work until you manually reboot and allow Windows to finish installing updates.

Are you able to and comfortable with opening your desktop up and checking that the ethernet card is securely seated in the slot? And that any internal connection plugs are firmly in place?

If not, do you know someone who could help. If the card is not fully in place that could be the "Red X" per Aspire's post.

Yes, I checked it but it seems like everything is in place. I mean.. Like I said, I was using it last night, left it on overnight, got back on in the morning and suddenly I had a red X at the bottom. When I look at the troubleshooting diagnostic, it tells me that the cable is either broken or not there, yet I used the same cable on my laptop and it worked fine. Could it be something related to software? I have no idea.
